The Graceful Clown...

Part of what I love about living in Seattle is the fact that I can walk out my door and have a great adventure. As part of that adventure, I am always drawn to our waterfront Seattle Aquarium. From the moment you arrive, and are greeted by a spectacular waterfall, outdoor viewing tank filled with local marine life and whimsical art installation, you realize you are in for a special experience.

You can stand inside a circle of jellyfish as a color wheel changes these unusual creatures from vibrant purple to bright green, or touch a sea anemone and star fish in the hands on Touch Zone exhibits. You can watch the harbor seals bask in the sun and silly otters play ball. As a member of Seattle Aquarium, each time you attend you can discover something you hadn't seen before. The sharp colors of coral and how different they can be, the huge fish coming right up to the glass to say hello and the sound of orca whales calling each other, can all be part of the experience.

Many schools throughout the Greater Seattle Area have field trips to the waterfront aquarium and I think watching children learn about our marine life is the most priceless part of my trips. As they get their faces painted, check out scuba gear, and press hands and faces to the glass so they can see all the wonders that abound in this special place, it makes me smile to know that our children are learning to love our environment and that brings the greatest hope for the future of all!
