Hammer Time in Seattle

No, MC Hammer is not performing in Seattle this week! This weekend on my stroll through the Emerald City, it dawned on me that I have written posts about Seattle Art Museum many times, and have yet to feature it's most prominent visitor, Hammering Man.

Gracing the First Avenue entrance, Hammering Man is a city owned institution. Photographed thousands of times weekly, by people from around the world, this 48 foot worker bee strikes his hammer four times per minute from seven a.m. til ten each night, seeing fit to exclude work from his schedule, only one day a year, Labor Day.

Hammering Man is not alone, he has siblings throughout the world, in varying sizes from New York and L.A. to Germany and Japan, making proud creator, Jonathan Borofsky a happy man indeed, knowing his industrious workers are not toiling in vain...

A Trip to Long Beach from Seattle

This weekend, we traveled to one of my favorite spots in Washington:

Long Beach. A place I can walk for miles on the flat, hard packed sand and enjoy the salt air, sea wind, crashing waves and serenity.

The highlight of our beach walks this weekend was observing the migratory Brown Pelicans perched in large groups at the water's edge, and on the craggy rocks they overtook as their home during this leg of their journey. The sky was gray with a dense fog and mist clinging low to the ground. Although my camera was in hand, my skill level was less than stellar when it came to capturing the essence of the sights I beheld...

Making themselves at home, the Pelicans were finding abundant meals to share...

To be sure, I am looking into ways to capture better shots under difficult lighting situations, taking my photo skills to a higher level, which after all, is a goal!

Alki offers some of the best views of downtown Seattle...

Queen Anne offers some vast views of downtown and beyond, including Elliot Bay and snow capped mountain ranges

North Admiral sits on a bluff and provides remarkable relaxing views of Puget Sound or the Emerald City

Magnolia is highlighted by spectacular water views...

and Downtown Seattle offers you Elliot Bay teeming with activity, Mount Rainier, and the cascades...

And this only begins to scratch the surface of water views available to Seattle residents!

A Stroll Through Seattle's Magnolia Neighborhood

North west of downtown Seattle, just the other side of Queen Anne, you can discover the beauty and diversity of Magnolia. This Seattle neighborhood provides many homes with views of Mount Rainier, Puget Sound, Elliot Bay and Downtown Seattle.

A peninsula community, Magnolia is not far from downtown, when you want a trip to Seattle Art Museum, 5th Avenue Theater, or feel like hitting First Thursday or our downtown night life.

Although you won't see any Magnolias blooming in this Seattle neighborhood, the Madronas tree lined streets, had a long ago ship captain document it as having vast Magnolia trees, hence, the name.

Don't forget Discovery Park for hiking trails or a walk along the beach, but that walk together, is for another day...

Something Tells Me Its All Happening At the Zoo

A venture to Woodland Zoo Park on a sunny day was just the ticket to bring back echos of Simon and Garfunkel. I might just be dating myself becoming reminiscent of the sixties, but time doesn't warrant vanity in such issues anymore.

A stone's throw from downtown Seattle had me parking at the zoo in ten minutes flat. I got there just as the haze of morning was burning off and began a zoo-like adventure you just might enjoy...
