Woodland Park Zoo Seattle

I enjoy meandering around Woodland Park Zoo. Like the Seattle Aquarium, every visit brings different photo opportunities depending on the weather, what time of day it is, and if it's close to feeding time. A few of the Zoo animals were kind enough to give me a little of their time. I do appreciate their cooperation!

Seattle Dinner Theater Like No Other

TEATRO ZINZANNI

Bronze Silver Or Gold

Seattle's Pike Place Market, is always an adventure on the weekends. The hustle and bustle, with fish flying, ice frantically being shoveled, produce trucks delivering seasonal bounty, and floral arrangements being bundled together with artistic flair.

 

Today, I have noticed a trio of street performers not singing, playing instruments or even juggling. Rather, contributing to the carnival vibe of Pike Place Market by becoming  living art. Statue people, if you will, devoted to enhancing our overall experience with their very presence among us. 

Bronze girl shimmers by the stairway to a cafe overlooking Elliot Bay...

Silver man feeds the pigeons on 1st and Pike...

And Golden Guy will leap into action if properly motivated by the sight of dollar bills being deposited into his coffer, adding to the "richness" of our weekend event, in their own special way...

Seattle Stairway To Heaven

Seattle is known for the hilly terrain we traverse on a daily basis, so it is no surprise that we have over Six hundred and fifty staircases in our fair city! Some of our exterior stairways, like the steps beside Seattle Art Museum, make the uphill climb easier, and others are steep or narrow and don't quite make for an interesting trail to the next block.

This set of stairs, however, is my favorite set! Located on Alaskan Way and Lenora...

 My heart pitter pats when I see

 them loom on the horizon!

specifically because there is an elevator a foot from the stairs, making it my stairway to heaven! The views of Elliot Bay are wonderful from this magical glass enclosure that lifts me to a higher vantage point and releases me gently above the   stairs!

Yet another hill to climb, as I make my way to 1st Avenue and Pike Place Market! No need for a cumbersome piece of fitness equipment in this gal's home! My daily walkabouts with my best four legged friend, in the great outdoors, with the scent of brine in the air, will do me just fine!...

Seattle Aquarium Shows Signs Of Green

As I look back on my Seattle walkabouts, I have become aware of how green we really are. Seattle Aquarium is on my to do list every month, and each time I go, there is something different to notice. Today, I was on the look out for green moments to share...

Let's start at the entry, shall we?...

Separate trash with ease...Yep, that's pretty green!

Big neon sigh with interactive Scuba diver exhibit every hour on pollution of our oceans...

Oh! How about these statistics?...What a mission statement: Inspiring Conservation Of Our Marine Environment!...with educational programs, beach outreach and updated research on regional species!

Looks to me like our Seattle Aquarium is the epitome of green...Taking a big bite out of pollution and helping us all to understand our local marine life and environment in a fun way!

Seattle Sunset on Elliot Bay

There is nothing like ending a great dinner (that I successfully prepared!) with a beautiful sunset. I never get tired of watching the ferry glide through the water as the sun sets behind the mountains. Sail boats enjoyed the view along with us and all the passengers making their way home on the ferry. As we watch this day pass by, and say good evening to the Emerald City, I think to myself... Another glorious day in Seattle!

Seattle Art At Gallery Mack

Gallery Mack has been a main stay in the Seattle art scene since the mid seventies. Seattle Sightseeing Adventures

With all the visitors downtown Seattle sees during the summer months, it is no surprise that there are quite a few ways to get a sight seeing trip in, should one desire. Looking back on the past few months, I have collected some interesting means of travel for the summer visitors...

We have amphibious Duck Boat tours,

Pink Bus tours,

Horse and carriage rides,

and PediCabs, not to mention walking tours of Pike Place, City Hall, Historic buildings and Pioneer Square.

There is so much to see, a tour makes perfect sense if someone is visiting the Emerald City. September 15th is the official end of summer, when Cruise ships stop gliding into the bay and our tour guides are seen only on holidays and special event weekends!

Seattle Aquarium Highlights Chihuly Work

As a member of Seattle Aquarium, I make it there several times a month. It is easy to find great photo opportunities between our marine life exhibits and happy children learning as they have a really great time. 

Today, however, I have honed in on something special that I would like to share. Art by Dale Chihuly, The Northwest's very own world renowned artist, who has changed the meaning of glass art exhibits across the globe. This body of work is an early Sea Forms installation, created in the 1980s, and is thoughtfully exhibited near the jelly fish display titled The Ring of Life...

Seattle Retail Growth Is Good Sign

Downtown Seattle has two new retailers setting up shop. Target is in the works on second and Union right now. It is fun watching the vacant space transform into a familiar dry goods store. I am looking forward to seeing the distinctive red bulls eye go up. I'm excited because now I won't even have to get in the car for laundry soap and toothpaste!

 

JC Penney is making a come back to Seattle's urban core. I was pleasantly surprised to read about it in today's' Seattle Times. According to the news, Penney's will be a mere block from the new Target location on Third and Pike, ln the landmark Kress building where many of us shop at the IGA for grocery staples.

 

Both the Target and Penney store will be about half the size of their standard department stores. The Urban shopper concept has taken off well for both retailers, and the growth spurt we are seeing in downtown Seattle is allowing more moderate clothiers than Nordstrom and Barney's the opportunity to thrive in the downtown retail core!

Seattle Zipcars For a Green Ride

One of the wonderful things about urban living is the lack of need for an automobile on a daily basis. When we moved to downtown Seattle we liberated ourselves from the three car garage syndrome of the desert and downsized to one all purpose vehicle. 

 

There is a better way for those who don't want to make car payments, insurance payments, parking garage payments and buy gas. 

 

 

You can join the growing number of Seattle Urban dwellers who use zipcar! From feisty BMW mini coopers to hybrids and luxury sedans, your chariot awaits with  zipcar. As a member, you can reserve a vehicle any time you like by entering the address you want to leave from. Book with your cell phone, pop open the door with your zipcard, and even use the gas card inside the car to fuel up!

 

While this may not be for everyone, with gas priced at more than four dollars per gallon, opting out of car ownership to rent cars for six dollars an hour including gas and insurance, works for many! Not to mention what it can do for the environment to be part of the car share culture!

Showbox Marquee Seattle

I had to laugh as I walked past ShowBox on 1st near Union, and saw their marquee proclaiming Hanson will appear Sunday September 4th. Although the brother boy band did well with their bubble gum sensation MMMBOP, I had to wonder how much stage time they can fill!

Admittedly adorable in 1997, the MMMBOP song received two Grammy nominations. It also created an overkill hate-fest that made Hanson a  parody band. They have never come up with another hit song. 

Paul Simon was an astounding event at Showbox. James was fantastic, but Hanson? Sorry boys, think I'll take a pass...

Seattle's Juice Emporium Energizes My Day

Strolling the streets of Seattle can make for an exciting day. I find my photo opportunities everywhere. Some days, I don't realize how long I have been at it until I feel that strange fogginess we can get when we aren't staying hydrated. One quick solution is to stop by The Juice Emporium just across from Pike Place Market.

With smoothies and fresh squeezed juice of every variety, there is no reason to not feel lively and refreshed!

My choice today was strawberry lemonade, the perfect thirst quencher for a parched Seattleite!

The friendly Juice Master always has a smile for patrons stopping by, and I thoroughly enjoyed my sweet tart delight and the energy it provided for my continued journey.
