As news crews prepared for the ceremony and spoke with Rick, people began to gather for the ceremonial blessing of the totem pole.

John T. Williams, a native American woodcarver born and raised in Seattle, was killed one year ago by a Seattle police officer, who later was released from duty for killing the seventh generation wood carver on his way home to the home for  chronic inebriates where John T. lived.

Rick Williams, John's brother created the totem pole and has been a staple on pier 57 for nearly a year now creating the memorial pole.

Prayers and songs will be offered to bring a year of ceremonial grieving to an end. The totem pole will be placed at Seattle Center this February. I will miss seeing Rich on Pier 57!
